Having reached that time of year once again I've decided it's time for a good old fashion Spring clean. I have decided I don't want to be a hoarder like so many other people I know and for the past little while have been trying to throw out things that I just know have no purpose or use for me any more. This solves both my issues with lack of storage, too much clutter, and potential breeding grounds for all kinds of creepy crawlies (silverfish anyone?).
I've been attempting this cleaning by starting one room at a time for just an hour a day. Sure it might take a few extra days, but to actually get the entire unit clean over just maybe one room? Totally worth it.
The place feels better already.

15 Minutes
Today was the Queen's birthday public holiday in Queensland. Despite this, I had to work. My partner only came down from Townsville for the long weekend meaning his flight back was this afternoon. I finished work and as previously agreed upon with my boss I got to leave right on 3pm. I rode my push-bike as fast as I could in the hope I'd get to see him before the taxi came to get him.
Success. After possibly the fastest ride I've ever done he greeted me at the stairs. Best 15 minutes of my day. Totally worth it.

Nagging laziness
Sometimes it's so easy to listen to that nagging voice that just wants to sit on ass all day. There is another voice that tries to explain how not letting laziness win will benefit you sooner and for longer, and you know rationally you'll feel so much better once you've done the task, but it's still so easy to be lazy. But in the long run, what does that laziness achieve? Is there an award for having watched the most movies through your lifetime at the end? For having completed a computer game x times over?
I mean some laziness is beneficial, having some down time is good... But not at the cost of getting progress to happen. Don't put off the inevitable, finish it now so you have longer to appreciate the results. The feel good rush is worth it. That is ikiteiru.

Bill Bailey
Last Sunday myself and a bunch of friends converged into the City to go have an entertaining night of watching the magnificent Bill Bailey live in show at QPAC.
I had no prior experience with Bill Bailey other than seeing him in Black Books, and words cannot express my regret of that. He is magnificent! He had obviously taken some time to update some of his jokes into the Australian setting - commenting on the state of Australian politics, using Australian brand names etc. He also had a great sense of timing with his gags and musical ability.
If you are even remotely interested in comedians, definitely take the time to go see Bill Bailey, you won't regret it!

Reflection
Sometimes it's so easy to get bogged down in your work life that it can be hard separating yourself away from that mind frame and remembering to stop and smell the roses. The last two weekends my partner and I have endeavoured to start being tourists in our own backyard so to speak. All too often people forget about what their local area has to offer. As a result 2 weekends ago we climbed mt beerburrum, a small mountain albeit steep, but one I have driven past thousands of times in my life and never actually visited. I now regret not having climbed up that peak sooner. The view from the top was amazing! Then last weekend we went with my partners sister and brother in law to the back of kennilworth to a small part if the Mary river to do some line fishing. I'm going to endeavour even once my partner is back in Townsville to visit somewhere I haven't been before every weekend.

Ice cream
My partner has recently returned from Afghanistan after a 5 month stint over there. While he was there on an almost daily basis he mentioned how he had ice cream at lunch (often in the same sentence as saying it was freezing there at that time of year). So when he got home and his mum revealed that our late Christmas present was a cuisinart ice cream machine I couldn't wait to start playing around with it. My first attempt was a basic cookies and cream. And may I add the most scrumptious cookies and cream I've ever eaten. But now I'm trying plain vanilla with some jelly lolly chunks strewn throughout. It's only just in the mixing/cooling stage but already I can tell this one is going to be better than the last. Last time I used a whisk to stir it when I should have used an electric beater like I did this time. It's so much airier and cooling and thickening a lot quicker. So exciting!

Song of the Week - Home
Home By Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros is my happy song. It's just such a beautifully crafted song that makes my heart sing every time I hear it.
"I follow you into the park, through the jungle through the dark
Girl aint never loved one like you
Moats and boats and Waterfalls, Alleyways and payphone calls
I been everywhere with you
Laugh until we think we'll die, barefoot on a summer night
never could be sweeter than with you"

Song of the Week - It's Nice To Be Alive
I just wanted to start this new blog by sharing one of my favourite songs of the moment.
Boring as bat-shit you people make me feel so
Curious and I don't know why
You think you'll end up in the sky
Happy as Larry and riding sheep on clouds
Well I'd prefer enthusiasm while you're here with me
So stop
Don't get carried away
Darling don't you understand that every time we wave our hands we're cool
We're fucking amazing
We dropped down from some other dimension just to be with you
Don't stress
That's dumb
I'm here
And it's nice to be alive
Chill out
It's all right
Kiss me
It's nice to be alive
Lovers need lovers and I'm impressed by all the
Goods out on display
I don't know what to say
I'm thinking I'm thinking woah-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
I prefer enthusiasm while you're here with me
So stop
Don't get carried away
Darling don't you understand that every time we wave our hands we're cool
We're fucking amazing
We dropped down from some other dimension, just to be with you
Don't stress
That's dumb
I'm here
And it's nice to be alive
Chill out
It's all right
Kiss me
It's nice to be alive
Don't stress
That's dumb
I'm here
And it's nice to be alive
Chill out
It's all right
Kiss me
It's nice to be alive
It's nice to be alive
It's nice to be alive
I love the idea that every day should be lived as though it's your last. We never know is around the corner and thus should seize every opportunity even if we are doubtful when it first presents itself.
